The gear manufacturer tells you about the gear processing process

Gear machining process is composed of several processes. In order to obtain gears that meet the accuracy requirements, the whole processing process is around the tooth profile processing process. Next, the gear manufacturer will briefly explain the gear processing process for you.

1. Rough machining of gears

Rough machining of gears is to remove machining allowance, determine the benchmark for semi finishing, and rough machining of gear teeth. The datum shall be selected for gear rough machining. The determination of the datum has a great influence on the distribution of machining allowance of each subsequent machined surface and the relative position of the machined surface and the non machined surface. Hobbing is selected for rough machining of heel digging gear teeth. When determining the thickness of gear hobbing indexing circle, the carbon layer thinning during gear grinding shall be considered. Generally, the gear grinding allowance shall not be greater than 0.2mm on one side; Since hobbing and grinding do not use the same processing benchmark, the runout of gear tooth profile should also be limited during hobbing to avoid inconsistent margin during gear grinding, resulting in uneven infiltration layer on the tooth surface and reducing the wear resistance of the tooth surface.

2. Heat treatment of gears

After rough machining of the gear body and gear teeth, in order to meet the requirements of the design drawing, heat treatment is generally required, such as carburizing, quenching, cyaniding, nitriding, etc. of the gear teeth to improve the mechanical properties of the materials and meet the use requirements. The heel gear is carburized and quenched. The allowance protection method shall be adopted. After carburizing, semi finishing shall be carried out to remove the protection allowance before quenching.

3. Semi finishing of gears

Semi finishing mainly completes the processing of secondary surfaces and prepares for the finishing of main surfaces. Semi finishing mainly includes turning, grinding, and correction of finishing datum. The carburizing and quenching of gears protected by allowance in carburizing and quenching are divided into two processes, in which semi finishing is required to remove the protective allowance.
